The product tutorial, start to finish.

Read it written up on the forum — the same walkthrough, with the numbers, and somewhere to ask.

The fishing pool turns a spot on your land into a fishing water for the SL Colonies fishing game. Rez it on dry ground and it is a pond of its own; rez it over Second Life water and one click snaps it to the surface. Either way, fish leap and ripples spread across it, so anglers can see where the water is from the shore.

Setting it up takes a minute. For its first 15 minutes the pool shows itself in blue, with a ring where floats can land, so you can see exactly where it sits while you move it. Press Snap to water to lay it on Second Life water, then Done, and it registers where it stands. The leaping fish play across an 8 metre disc by default; resize the prim to suit your pond (it changes the show, not the fishing).

Choose its water. Hold left click for the owner menu and pick what the pool holds: fresh temperate or salt temperate today, each with its own fish. It can change once a week. The same menu turns on hover text, and like any SL Colonies object you can rename and recolour it.

How players fish. Anglers wear the free SLC HUD and meter, open the fishing HUD from its tool screen, hold a fishing rod (their first is free) and stand within 40 metres of the pool. They cast, wait for the bite, then hold to reel and ease off when the fish runs. Too much tension and the line snaps. Any number of players can fish one pool at the same time, and every fish they land is a real item to cook, trade or sell.

Rare fish move every week. On a public SL Colonies realm, every Monday each realm is dealt its own uncommon and rare fish for the week, some an epic, so anglers travel between realms to find them. On private land a pool fishes the common fish of its water. Pools stand at least 80 metres apart.

The Fishing Spot flag comes in the box. Plant it on dry land within 40 metres of your pool. It lists your realm under "Where to fish" on the fishing page, with a teleport that lands visitors beside the flag rather than in the water. The flag does not change how anyone fishes; it is how anglers find you.

Every catch counts toward the weekly and all-time leaderboards and each species' record, and toward the Fisherman's guild path. More waters open as more realms fish.
